Solnedgång över Öresund. Blått hav och mulen himmel möts. Molnen spricker upp och ljuset kommer igenom. Det speglas i en strimme på havet. I horisonten syns en lång rad vindkraftverk. En öppen träbåt ligger på vattnet

Sustainability

Environment & Human

To reduce our future footprint on the planet, we must all help take responsibility for our own part. For us at Nordlys, this means that people and the environment are always in focus and form the basis for our choices and how we act.

An important part of this is how we pack our orders. We use packing materials made from recycled paper as much as possible.

  • With us, you always get your package packed in paper. No plastic e-commerce bags!
  • We reuse materials & boxes that we receive instead of throwing them away.
  • Our filling material in boxes is 100% recycled.

So if you receive a delivery where the box is filled with, for example, bubble wrap, it is reused material. Such as what we have had our deliveries packed with. We are also actively working to reduce the amount of plastic that our craftsmen pack with. So in the future, we might completely avoid plastic.

Together we can make a difference

Nordlys is a small company and a small cog in a large machinery. But through our active choices and you, our customers, we still believe we can contribute to a sustainable future. We constantly strive to improve and carefully consider all our choices based on sustainability, such as our choices of production, materials, shipping, marketing, and production methods.

The past meets the future

To find balance in interaction with nature, we must both preserve old ways of living and thinking as well as renew and make space for ancient wisdom.
We believe in a future where old traditions, materials, and knowledge are combined with innovative thinking and modern technology, to meet society's needs for longevity and sustainability.

Craftsmanship for everyone

One of our goals is to make craftsmanship accessible to everyone, which is why the production cost in relation to, for example, transport emissions is an important issue for us.

Our goal of having all production as close to us as possible is balanced against the opportunity to support vulnerable groups and to help preserve crafts and traditions in parts of the world where the original tradition is maintained.

Today, a large part of our manufacturing takes place in India and Nepal, countries with both significant poverty but also incredibly rich in culture, traditions, and above all, craftsmanship. This also creates a responsibility for us as clients to ensure that our production meets the strict sustainability requirements we set.

Personal meetings

We personally travel around the world to find the absolute best craftsmen to collaborate with. Something we started, in different parts of Europe, over 15 years ago. Whenever possible, we always choose to collaborate with small craft businesses or through organizations that support women and other vulnerable groups. Through direct, personal contacts, we ensure that the craftsmen receive fair wages and actively work to continuously improve their working conditions and future opportunities.
